If you require someone to suspend their personal beliefs, in order to hear your side of things, but then refuse to do so yourself to hear their side, you're a jerk.
I run into this sooo often in my life. People who say they want to debate something, but all they want is to convert you to their way of thinking and have no intent on actually paying attention to anything you have to say.
I try very hard to make sure that I am not that person. Sure, I stand up for what I believe, and I defend what I believe, but I will give you a fair chance to explain that belief to me.
